There are a lot of incredible people doing some amazing things to help educate and build awareness around nutrition. We would like to take a minute to acknowledge on of them. In March 2010, Jamie Oliver’s show Food Revolution aired on ABC. It was number one in its time slot and won an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program. I’ll never forget the episode where french fries were considered a vegetable to meet the school lunch program’s requirement for vegetables. Food Revolution helped open my eyes about the inadequacy of school lunches. As an aunt to two adorable little girls, I strive to ensure they receive an adequate balanced diet. In a child’s diet, there is no room for discretionary calories. Their bodies and immune systems are still developing so we need to give them the best nutrition through fresh fruits and vegetables.
Food Revolution will return this Fall on ABC and I can hardly wait! We all need to revolutionize our food choices. If you missed Food Revolution in the Spring, I hope you will give it a chance when it returns. Below is his TED presentation which he delivers with extreme passion. We at WELLJOURN.org have joined the revolution and hope you will too as part of your journey towards wellness. Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize wish: Teach every child about food (Feb 2010)
Our children in the United States will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents, by 10 years. The problem is obesity and diet choices our children are making are a big part of the cause. Jamie delivers a passionate, eye-opening presentation about his plan to start a revolution.
